The paper’s editors decided to highlight the asbestos-related risks to the country’s public health as a way of warning people to be aware of the potential dangers of exposure.
“Asbestos can be used as a cheap and dangerous substitute for other types of materials,” the editors wrote in the paper.
“The government should be prepared to accept the risks involved in replacing old building materials, and if the asbestos problem persists, it should take a tougher line.”
The paper’s authors went on to say that if asbestos is used in the country, there should be an inspection and licensing process to make sure it is used only for its intended purpose.
“There is no reason why asbestos should be used in a way that makes the building more susceptible to fire and damage,” they added.
The paper said the paper also pointed out that the government should make it clear how asbestos could be used to replace existing building materials and that the use of asbestos should not be used for a building that has not been built in decades.
In response to the paper’s comments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that the paper was “outrageous” and “very wrong” and called on the Centre to do more to address the issue.
“We have a country where there are huge numbers of people suffering from asbestos and it’s been used for thousands of years.
It should be changed,” he said.
